SSC Rail Jam’s Pipe Dreams: Competing As A New Park Skier

I can’t help but give a wide smile as I think back on my first day sliding a rail in the fall. I never expected to find myself here, competing in rail jam myself, surrounded by the support of UVM’s extraordinary student body. Rail jam is by far my favorite event that the University has. My breath is no longer heavy, my veins now course with excitement, not petrified nerves, and my vision is no longer a blurred tunnel. The image now in focus is the breathtaking and inspiring culture that is UVM. The universe is in focus before me, and I’m in a state of exhilarated delirium thanks to SSC’s Pipe Dreams.

Pipe Dreams 2023:The East Coast's Finest

Picture this, you've been sitting on your couch for the entirety of winter break doing nothing but practicing your basket weaving skills so that you can get back to school ready to show everyone your cool new skills but realize maybe those cool kids up in Burlington care more about skiing. Crazy story, they do (but basket weaving is still pretty cool). On January 27th, UVM students packed the outside of the Davis Center to watch a bunch of people go down a hill and slide some metal at the Pipe Dreams Rail Jam.

Skiing in Maryland: A Humble Tale

I immediately grabbed my gear and headed up to the mountain. I'll show them! I'll find the best line known to mankind, and then everyone will know that Maryland has by far the greatest skiing all around. To be fair, we had all-time's greatest swimmer, winner of 28 Olympic medals, and prodigy of his time, Michael Phelps, grow up in my very state. I know what you may be thinking, "What does that have to do with skiing? That statement is about as useless as a screen door on a submarine!" To that, I respond, yes.

Burton Premier: One World

What better way to cure preseason boredom than watching a film full of some of the world’s best riders show off their talent? Although one year late due to COVID-19 and no snow yet on the ground, UVM students gathered in excitement on Thursday night to watch the premiere of Burton’s film, “One World” on the big screen…

Tremblant Takeover 2019

Tremblant is probably the best weekend of the semester. In the land where every sentence ends in “eh” and where it’s acceptable to eat poutine for every meal, this year’s adventure north was one for the books! We’re talking dance battles galore, someone getting escorted off the mountain, and VIP balconies in Cafe d’Epoque.

Banff 2019

A week in Banff with SSC was unforgettable: waist-deep powder after a big boot pack (and some booting), unexpected cliff drops, buttery snow in the glades, mechanical bull riding, karaoke, a ton of Aussies, a Dancing Sasquatch, and so much more.
